The Importance of a Cold Drawing Machine

Cold drawing machine takes steel wire rod in its primary state and reduces the diameter to the desired size. It is an indispensable machine if you plan to market different diameters of black wire or manufacture metal meshes.

The process of cold drawing increases the strength and stiffness of the steel bar while making it more ductile. It does this by realigning the molecules in the steel to make it more resilient and less brittle. In addition, the process allows for greater accuracy in the shapes and sizes of the bars and rods.

In order to perform the process, it is necessary to have a well-developed and reliable drawing machine. The energy-power parameters of the drawing process are dependent on many technological factors, such as the mechanical properties and tendency to hardening of the material being drawn, a single degree of deformation, a friction coefficient at the metal-wire contact, design parameters of the die, and the drawing speed.

Before the actual drawing process begins, it is important to prepare the raw stock. This is accomplished by cleaning the abrasive scale and coating the surface with a suitable drawing lubricant. The lubricant helps to reduce the friction between the wire and the die during drawing and to prevent the wire from breaking.

For instance, an eddy current system can help control the velocity of the wire during drawing, which will in turn ensure a smooth and even finish. In addition, a laser scanning system can be used to monitor the position of the dies during the drawing process. This will make it easier to identify any problems that arise and resolve them quickly. The laser can also detect the presence of a foreign object in the die and alert the operator. This can prevent damage to the finished product and avoid costly downtime.
